Holidays in San Vigilio di Marebbe, on the Plan de Corones

What a wonderful world …

… we like to think that Louis Armstrong was dreaming of San Vigilio di Marebbe when he sang this song:
Ice blue mountain lakes, lush green meadows, snow-covered forests, majestic stony giants, crisp snow and perfectly groomed slopes. Your holiday on Plan de Corones gives you this and much more. There are certainly many beautiful landscapes around the world, but our local mountains, here at San Vigilio, have a very special charm …

Baby, it’s magic outside:

Cross-country skiing, a dream come true

The snow glitters like a carpet of diamonds, surrounded by the great rocky giants, snow-covered meadows and forests stretch far into the distance; you can forget your daily routine and just enjoy the magic of the moment as you glide along on your skis. This cross-country track leads from San Vigilio to Pederü Mountain Hut, a distance of 24 km; it suits both the classic and skating style, and can either be covered all at once or divided into six stages. Treat yourself to a break along the way in the warm atmosphere of a mountain hut restaurant.

Let’s go out tobogganing!

Starting point: Cianross ski lift upper station, where you can rent a toboggan. From there, you can whizz down a run next to the ski slope, travelling through the woods for about 680 m. The track is also floodlit twice a week, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., so you can enjoy a wonderful ride under the stars.

That one. That epic one. The “Erta” ski run

With a maximum 61 % gradient, the Erta is classed as one of the famous “Black Five” ski runs. A very tricky run, and so an excellent choice for competitions. If you want to test yourself against some of the biggest names in skiing, have a go on this slope. The women’s giant slalom competition for the FIS World Cup takes place here every year. Do you have nerves of steel? Are you up to this formidable challenge?

Hike among the mountain huts in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park

There are so many hiking trails in and around San Vigilio, all of them wonderfully evocative. You can combine some of these hikes with a rest stop at a mountain hut, such as Rifugio Fanes, Rifugio Lavarella or Rifugio Sennes which all make good starting points for other ski or snowshoe hikes. Many hikes and walks also leave straight from our B&B: we will be more than happy to share our experiences and give you some helpful advice.

Hikes in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site

The imposing limestone mountains we know as the Dolomites were formed over 200 million years ago. In 2009, the Dolomites were added to the list of UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites, in recognition of their special beauty and geological structure. Those who visit these mountains are always drawn back. And it’s easy to see why: gentle pastures, boundless horizons, great rocky giants, pristine forests and an unspoiled natural landscape are all part of a holiday at San Vigilio on Plan de Corones.

The draw of the rocky giants

If climbing is your passion, your heart will soar when you see our imposing peaks. There are several rock gyms in and around San Vigilio, with varying degrees of difficulty: the NEA rock gym, the Vedla rock gym, the Pederü rock gym, the great “flagstones” of Cima Nove, and many more. Fancy a nice via ferrata? We recommend the Furcia Rossa via ferrata, the Sentiero della Pace (Peace Trail) up to Gran Fanes.

A bird’s eye view

100 m high, 4.2 km long, with speeds of 80 km/hr: these are some of the figures for Europe’s largest zip-line and San Vigilio’s stand-out attraction. Experience the real thrill of speeding down towards the valley over the treetops (online booking).

Mountain biking and downhill riding

Whether you prefer an e-bike or an MTB, San Vigilio and the whole tourist region of Plan de Corones offers a great choice of routes, with a mix of fun and excitement. Like the Fanes-Senes-MTB-Tour, or the free-ride and downhill trails on the Plan de Corones …
